Strong winds hamper efforts to contain Pengerang peatland fire

Authorities battling a peatland fire in Pengerang are facing significant challenges as adverse weather conditions impede progress in containing the blaze. Gusty winds across the region are spreading flames and hampering the work of firefighting teams deployed to the affected area.
Control efforts have produced mixed results across the two operational sectors. While Sector B has been successfully brought under control, progress in Sector A remains slow, with approximately 9.7 percent of the fire-affected zone contained as of the latest reports.
Peatland fires present particular challenges for emergency responders due to the nature of the terrain and the difficulty in accessing affected areas. The strong wind conditions currently affecting the Pengerang region are expected to continue complicating suppression operations in the coming hours.
Authorities have not yet provided estimates on the total area affected by the fire or indicated when containment efforts may be fully completed. Additional resources may be deployed if weather conditions do not improve.
