Student group clash in Raibareli escalates into political row

A confrontation between members of the Samajwadi Party student wing and the ABVP at Firoz Gandhi College in Raibareli district has escalated into a wider political controversy. The clash occurred during a membership drive campaign on the college campus, with both student groups clashing over the recruitment activity.

Local police intervened in the dispute, leading to a heated exchange between the officer-in-charge and the district-level Samajwadi Party leadership. Following the incident, SP MLA Rahul Lodhi alleged that police personnel had resorted to physical assault on the protesting students.

The allegation has drawn sharp responses from state-level political figures. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav characterized the incident as an attack on the PDA (Yadav-Muslim-Dalit coalition) alliance, using the terminology commonly employed by the opposition coalition in Uttar Pradesh. "This is a direct assault on the PDA," he said, underlining the political dimensions of the confrontation.

Police officials have denied the accusations of violence, dismissing claims of assault as misleading and factually incorrect. State law enforcement authorities have stated that their personnel acted appropriately in managing the situation on campus.
