Student groups clash in Kerala; former MLA named in case

Three separate cases have been registered by police following clashes between student activists in Adoor, with former MLA Mamkootathil named in connection with the incident. The violence involved members of the Kerala Students Union, Youth Congress, Students Federation of India, and Democratic Youth Federation of India.

The tensions originated following college union elections held at the College of Engineering, Adoor, where representatives of various student organizations were contesting. According to police statements, the situation escalated as activists from rival student wings confronted each other on campus.

Authorities moved to register multiple cases against the activists involved in the clashes. The involvement of the former MLA in the case has added a political dimension to what began as a campus dispute. Police officials confirmed that the incidents stemmed directly from the competitive nature of the college union elections.

The clash highlights the ongoing rivalry between student wings affiliated with different political parties across Kerala's educational institutions. College union elections in the state have frequently become flashpoints for inter-party activism and competition for student leadership positions.
