A high school student armed with two firearms carried out a fatal shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga university's secondary campus in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, killing a peer and then himself, authorities said. According to Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso, the suspect initially fired at a teacher before shooting a fellow student fatally. The gunman subsequently turned the weapon on himself. Two additional people sustained injuries in the incident. The shooter reportedly wore a body camera during the attack, apparently to livestream the violence. The identity of the gunman and further details about the motivation remain unclear. The Philippine shooting occurs amid heightened concerns over gun violence in the region. The incident follows a deadly school attack in Thailand less than two weeks earlier, prompting Thai authorities to consider stricter firearms regulations. Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced measures to tighten gun control after a 14-year-old boy killed his grandparents, five school staff members and a 12-year-old girl in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok.
