Students block Agargaon road in protest over Secretariat relocation plan

Students from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SAUST) blocked the Agargaon road on Tuesday as part of a demonstration against the proposed relocation of the government Secretariat from its current location in Dhaka's central administrative zone.

The protesting students, numbering in the hundreds, gathered at the key thoroughfare during peak office hours, bringing traffic to a standstill and drawing attention from commuters and government officials transiting the area. The blockade lasted several hours as demonstrators voiced their concerns regarding the implications of moving the Secretariat to an alternate site.

The protesters argued that the relocation plan would have significant consequences for urban development, administrative efficiency, and existing infrastructure in the capital region. Student representatives called for consultations with stakeholders before any final decision is made on the matter.

Authorities were deployed to manage the situation and maintain order during the demonstration. The protest reflects growing student activism on policy matters affecting the country's administrative and urban development priorities.
