Subic Freeport developer pledges full cooperation in landslide probe

Xantheng (Subic) International Corp., which oversees operations at the Subic Bay Freeport zone in San Antonio, Zambales, said it would cooperate fully with authorities examining the fatal incident that occurred over the weekend.

The company issued its commitment to accountability on Monday, August 31, as provincial and national agencies began their investigation into the circumstances that led to the landslide at the freeport development site.

Two workers were killed in the incident while two others sustained injuries. The deaths have prompted questions about safety protocols at the facility and whether proper precautions were in place to prevent such occurrences.

Xantheng's pledge of transparency indicates the company's willingness to provide documentation, site assessments, and other relevant information to investigators. The commitment may also address concerns about workplace safety standards at the sprawling economic zone, which has seen significant industrial and commercial expansion in recent years.

Authorities have not yet released preliminary findings from their investigation into the specific factors that contributed to the landslide.
