Sudan army claims major RSF losses in Nyala clash

Sudan's armed forces claimed significant casualties among Rapid Support Forces combatants following a military operation in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, amid the country's ongoing conflict.

The army's assertion came as the RSF countered with accusations that military forces had attacked a busy livestock market in the city, resulting in civilian deaths. The paramilitary group said at least 30 people were killed in the strike.

Nyala has witnessed repeated clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF since fighting erupted in April 2023, devastating Sudan's economy and displacing millions. The city, located in the country's western Darfur region, has become a focal point of the conflict as both sides compete for territorial control.

Civilian casualties and accusations of indiscriminate strikes have characterized the conflict, with competing claims from warring parties making independent verification difficult. International organizations have repeatedly raised concerns about civilian harm and potential war crimes committed by both sides in the escalating violence.

Neither the military nor the RSF could immediately provide independent confirmation of their respective casualty figures.
