BACOLOD CITY — Industry representatives expressed approval Tuesday over Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines' (CCEAP) assurance to exclusively use sugar produced in Negros for its operations in the region, marking a significant boost for local producers.

The Sugar Council acknowledged the commitment as a positive development for the sugar industry, particularly for Negros-based farmers and refineries. However, the federation has called on CCEAP to extend the same sourcing guarantee to other sugar-producing regions across the Philippines.

The move aligns with growing pressure on multinational corporations to support domestic agricultural sectors and reduce reliance on imported ingredients. For the Negros sugar industry, which has faced challenges from global price volatility and competition, the partnership with a major beverage manufacturer provides a stable market outlet.

Industry observers say CCEAP's regional commitment could serve as a model for other large-scale beverage and food companies operating in the Philippines, potentially creating additional demand for locally grown sugar and supporting rural economies beyond Negros.
