India's sugar industry is entering a productive phase as nearly 200 mills have commenced crushing operations for the new season, signalling strong momentum in the sector. According to industry data, 184 mills are now actively processing sugarcane, setting the stage for robust production in the coming months.
Maharashtra continues to dominate output, with 136 mills beginning operations and generating 1.078 million tonnes of sugar as of November 5. The western state's early start positions it as a major contributor to the nation's sugar supply, reflecting favourable crushing conditions and adequate cane availability.
The expansion of operations across multiple mills indicates adequate sugarcane supplies and optimal weather conditions for processing. Early-season production levels suggest the industry is on track to meet domestic demand while potentially contributing to export commitments.
The ramp-up in mill operations typically signals healthy prospects for farmers, processors, and consumers alike. With crushing underway at this scale, the sector is positioned to deliver steady supplies throughout the crushing season, which typically extends into the early months of the new year.
