Sugarcane Farmers' March to Hubballi Set for Temporary Pause

Sugarcane farmers leading the Hubballi Chalo padayatra are likely to suspend their march temporarily as the agitation enters a new phase. The strategic pause comes as organisers plan to intensify pressure on the central government through a scheduled rally in the national capital later this month.

The farmers' march, which has been pressing for improved minimum support prices and better procurement mechanisms, will reconvene after the New Delhi demonstration on October 23. This two-pronged approach aims to leverage both ground-level mobilisation and high-level advocacy to push their demands before policymakers.

The padayatra, which has drawn widespread participation from farming communities across the region, seeks to highlight the economic distress faced by sugarcane cultivators. The movement has underscored concerns over stagnant prices, mounting input costs, and inadequate government support for the sector.

Organisers have indicated that the temporary halt should not be interpreted as a scaling back of efforts. Rather, the tactical regrouping is designed to maximise the impact of their demonstrations and ensure sustained pressure on authorities to address their grievances.
