Sugarcane farmers signal willingness to engage but vow to continue agitation

Sugarcane farmers welcomed a Central committee delegation to the negotiating table but made clear they would not suspend their ongoing protest until the government revises both the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and Fair Remunerative Price (FRP).

The talks, held in Delhi, represent the first formal engagement between the farming community and federal authorities on the contentious issue. However, Minister Laxman Savadi suggested the Union Ministers were insufficiently prepared for the meeting, potentially limiting the scope of discussions.

Farmers have demanded urgent intervention on pricing mechanisms that they argue fail to cover their production costs and ensure adequate returns. The continuation of their agitation signals their determination to secure concrete assurances on price revisions rather than merely engaging in dialogue.

The willingness to meet with the Central committee indicates a potential opening for negotiations, though significant gaps remain between the farmers' demands and the government's current position. Agricultural officials will need to come adequately equipped with policy proposals to break the impasse and move toward a resolution.

Farmer groups have indicated they remain open to further discussions but have set clear conditions for ending their protest action, underscoring the serious nature of their concerns over agricultural pricing.
