A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the gates of the Old Police Lines compound in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday congregational prayers, killing at least 15 people and wounding 25 others, according to police officials.
The vehicle struck the main gate of the compound before detonating, triggering a massive blast that caused extensive damage to the nearby mosque and surrounding structures. The explosion was followed by gunfire in the immediate aftermath of the attack.
Emergency responders transported 25 injured victims to DHQ Hospital in Kohat for medical treatment. The blast destroyed portions of the mosque and nearby buildings, with local officials describing the structure as severely damaged.
Kohat, located in the northwestern province, has been a flashpoint for militant violence in recent years. Security forces have heightened patrols in the region following the incident as investigations into the attack continue.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing as of the latest reports.
