KORONADAL CITY — All classes in public and private schools throughout Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, were suspended Thursday afternoon in the wake of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that struck off the municipality's coast.

Mayor Myrna Kapina issued Executive Order No. 040 mandating the class stoppage, citing concerns over possible structural damage to school buildings, falling objects, and the threat of aftershocks that could endanger students and teachers.

The seismic event prompted local authorities to prioritize safety measures across all educational institutions in the area. Officials warned residents to remain vigilant for additional tremors and to follow standard earthquake preparedness protocols.

No immediate reports of significant damage or casualties were disclosed. The suspension remained in effect pending structural assessments of school facilities and further evaluation of seismic activity in the region.
