SEREMBAN — Wildlife authorities in Negeri Sembilan are mobilising resources to safely relocate a sun bear that has ventured into a residential neighbourhood in Seremban. The sighting marks another instance of the protected species entering populated areas, likely driven by habitat loss and the search for sustenance.

The Negeri Sembilan Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) confirmed it is preparing traps and deployment teams to capture the animal without causing harm. Wildlife officials urged residents in the affected area to exercise caution and avoid approaching the bear, which can be unpredictable when startled or cornered.

Sun bears, identifiable by a distinctive white or cream-coloured chest patch, are increasingly venturing into human settlements across Malaysia as their natural forest habitats diminish. The species is protected under Malaysian law, and relocation is the standard approach when bears are found in populated zones.

Perhilitan advised the public to report any further sightings immediately to allow authorities to respond swiftly. The department also reiterated the importance of securing food waste and avoiding activities that might attract wildlife to residential areas.
