Sun Pharmaceutical's ILUMYA has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for treating active psoriatic arthritis in adults, broadening the drug's therapeutic applications beyond its established use in plaque psoriasis.

The regulatory clearance marks a significant expansion for the biologic therapy, which was previously approved solely for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. ILUMYA, known generically as tildrakizumab, is a monoclonal antibody that targets the IL-23 pathway, a key driver of inflammatory skin and joint conditions.
Psoriatic arthritis affects approximately 30 percent of patients with psoriasis, causing joint pain, swelling, and reduced mobility alongside skin manifestations. The condition can significantly impact quality of life and work productivity if left untreated. The FDA approval opens a new avenue for Indian pharmaceutical company Sun Pharma to address this patient population in the US market.
The expanded indication follows clinical trials demonstrating ILUMYA's efficacy in reducing joint symptoms and signs of active psoriatic arthritis in adult patients. The approval reflects growing recognition of IL-23 inhibition as an effective strategy for managing both cutaneous and articular manifestations of psoriatic disease.
For Sun Pharma, the approval strengthens its dermatology and immunology portfolio in North America, a key revenue market. The company has been building its presence in specialty pharmaceuticals, with ILUMYA joining other targeted biologics addressing immunological and inflammatory conditions.
