Super Typhoon Rosal downgraded to typhoon status Thursday

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) confirmed the downgrade in its Thursday weather advisory, noting that Rosal had slightly weakened by 2 p.m. on October 22.

As of 3 p.m., the system was positioned approximately 360 kilometers east of the Philippine archipelago, continuing its eastward movement away from the country.

The reduction in strength marked a significant change in the storm's trajectory after it had peaked as a super typhoon. Pagasa continues to monitor the system's development, though the initial weakening trend suggests the immediate threat to the Philippines may be diminishing.

Rosal, which carries the international designation Champi in the World Meteorological Organization naming system, has affected weather patterns across the region throughout the week. The downgrade provides some relief for communities in the western Pacific that had been tracking the powerful system's movement.
