MANILA — Super Typhoon Rosal exhibited modest signs of weakening on Wednesday afternoon as it churned westward in the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported.
In its 5 p.m. weather update, the state weather bureau said the typhoon's center was located approximately 725 kilometers east of Aparri in Cagayan province, moving in a west-northwesterly direction across open waters.
The gradual reduction in intensity came as Rosal maintained its offshore track, keeping it at some distance from the northern Philippine coastline. The weather bureau continued monitoring the system's movement and potential impacts on the region.
Meteorology officials indicated they would provide updated forecasts as Rosal's trajectory became clearer in the coming hours, with particular attention to its speed and direction relative to populated areas.
