Support for Indian community extends beyond partnerships, says PM Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stressed that assistance to the Indian community represents a comprehensive policy approach rather than a superficial partnership arrangement. Speaking on efforts to strengthen community development, Anwar highlighted multiple government programmes designed to provide tangible support to Indian Malaysians across various sectors.

The Prime Minister outlined several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the economic and social standing of the Indian community. These include the distribution of Special Tamil School Renovation (STR) funds, entrepreneur grants to promote business ownership within the community, and dedicated maintenance assistance for Tamil vernacular schools across the country.

Religious and cultural institutions also feature prominently in the government's support framework. Anwar noted that temples receive dedicated funding and development assistance as part of broader efforts to preserve and strengthen cultural infrastructure.

The Prime Minister's statement underscores the government's position that substantive community empowerment requires multifaceted support mechanisms. Rather than relying solely on partnerships with external organisations, the initiatives target specific areas including education, entrepreneurship, religious institutions, and infrastructure maintenance.

These programmes form part of the administration's wider agenda to ensure inclusive development across Malaysia's diverse communities and address historical gaps in resource allocation to minority groups.
