Supreme Court bars coercive action against journalist in Delhi cop complaint case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued orders protecting a journalist from any coercive action following a complaint filed by a Delhi Assistant Commissioner of Police against her. The directive came after the journalist alleged that the officer had sexually harassed her.

The case centres on allegations of casteist remarks made by the journalist against the police officer. However, the court's intervention ensured that while the complaint remains on record, no steps including arrest or detention would be taken against her at this stage.

The Supreme Court's order reflects the bench's concern over the circumstances leading to the complaint and the counter-allegations of sexual misconduct. By restraining coercive action, the court has effectively halted any immediate legal proceedings against the journalist while the matter remains under judicial consideration.

The case highlights the intersection of multiple legal issues involving professional conduct, communal sensitivity, and workplace harassment allegations. The court's protective order is expected to remain in effect pending further directions or the outcome of ongoing proceedings.
