The Supreme Court Collegium has put forward the names of Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak, Justice P. Sam Koshy, Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty, and Justice Sudhir Singh for elevation to the positions of Chief Justice in different High Courts.
The Collegium, which comprises the Chief Justice of India and four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, is the constitutional body responsible for recommending appointments and transfers within the higher judiciary. The recommendations are typically forwarded to the Union Law Ministry for formal approval by the President.
These appointments assume significance as they come at a time when several High Courts have either vacant Chief Justice positions or upcoming retirements. The elevation of these judges is expected to ensure continuity in judicial administration and strengthen leadership across multiple benches.
The specific High Courts to which each judge has been recommended will be finalized following standard procedural protocols. These transfers are part of the regular rotation mechanism designed to enhance the functioning of High Courts and facilitate the distribution of senior judicial talent across the country's higher judiciary system.
