Supreme Court Declines Ban on Cockroach Janata Party March, Urges Responsibility
India's Supreme Court has declined to prohibit a planned protest march by the Cockroach Janata Party scheduled for September 5, instead appealing to all parties to conduct themselves peacefully and lawfully. The court directed the petitioner to present concerns before a high-powered inquiry committee examining alleged police misconduct during earlier demonstrations.

The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, declined to pass orders on a petition seeking a ban on the Cockroach Janata Party's proposed march. Stating confidence in all stakeholders' commitment to democratic principles, the bench expressed expectations that both protesters and law enforcement agencies would uphold constitutional norms.
The court directed the petitioner to submit the petition to a specially constituted High Powered Enquiry Committee tasked with investigating allegations of police violence during recent NEET-related protests. The bench scheduled the matter for hearing on September 10 alongside other pending petitions, having issued notice in the case.
Addressing responsibilities of both demonstration organizers and state authorities, the bench articulated a framework for lawful civic engagement. "We expect both sides to maintain law and order, conduct themselves respectfully, and adhere to the law of the land," the judges stated, noting that while law enforcement holds primary responsibility for maintaining order, all participants must respect legal boundaries and constitutional provisions.
