Supreme Court directs Bhushan to move Delhi High Court over lawyer assault case
Chief Justice Surya Kant has advised senior advocate Prashant Bhushan to approach the Delhi High Court regarding an alleged incident in which lawyers were beaten at Bar Council of India premises. The directive comes as multiple petitions related to the Bar Council remain pending before the apex court.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday instructed advocate Prashant Bhushan to file his petition in the Delhi High Court rather than pursue the matter at the apex court level. A bench presided over by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant heard Bhushan's submission that he had approached the Supreme Court directly concerning the incident involving lawyers at the Bar Council of India premises.
Bhushan informed the bench that given the apex court's existing caseload relating to Bar Council matters, the Supreme Court would be an appropriate forum. However, the Chief Justice suggested that the Delhi High Court would be the more suitable venue to address the grievance.
The incident at the BCI premises has drawn attention to concerns about security and workplace safety within the legal fraternity's premier regulatory body. The Supreme Court's decision to direct the matter downward reflects the court's efforts to manage its docket by channeling cases to appropriate lower benches.
The development comes amid ongoing petitions before the Supreme Court related to various Bar Council of India matters, which the bench indicated were already consuming considerable judicial time.
