The Supreme Court has mandated that Delhi Police take concrete steps to ensure women's safety during late-night hours, setting a benchmark that extends to 11 pm and beyond. A bench comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and K Vinod Chandran stated that every woman must feel protected whether commuting on roads or using metro services at any time of day or night.

The directive comes as part of ongoing judicial scrutiny of women's safety measures in the capital city. The bench stressed that the onus lies with law enforcement authorities to create an environment where women can move freely without fear, irrespective of the hour.

The order represents the court's acknowledgment that inadequate security measures place significant restrictions on women's mobility and autonomy. By setting specific parameters around late-night safety, the bench has effectively challenged the status quo that has long limited women's movement after sunset in many urban areas.

The directive is expected to prompt a review of existing security protocols, street lighting infrastructure, police patrolling patterns, and public transport safety mechanisms across Delhi. The court's intervention underscores the judicial system's role in holding law enforcement accountable for protecting women's fundamental right to safe passage in public spaces.
