Supreme Court directs Delhi Police to set up 24-hour crime monitoring cells

The Supreme Court of India has instructed the Delhi Police to establish round-the-clock monitoring cells dedicated to preventing sexual offences across the capital. The directive comes as part of the court's ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement response to crimes against women and vulnerable populations in the national capital region.

Beyond the 24-hour monitoring mechanism, the bench has asked police authorities to intensify patrolling activities, with particular focus on areas surrounding educational institutions, transit hubs, and other public spaces where crimes often occur. The court stressed the importance of visible police presence as a deterrent to potential offenders.

The Supreme Court also underscored that these directives must translate into concrete ground-level action rather than remain as administrative formalities. Officials have been directed to ensure accountability and regular review of implementation to prevent such orders from becoming mere paper exercises.

The order reflects ongoing judicial scrutiny of the capital's law and order situation. The court has previously intervened in matters concerning women's safety and police response mechanisms, aiming to create a more secure environment in public spaces across Delhi.
