New Delhi — The Supreme Court has declined to entertain a plea seeking a CBI investigation into allegations of horse-trading involving Tamil Nadu's political leadership following the state Assembly elections. The petition, which had specifically named Tamil Nadu Minister N. Anand and four former AIADMK MLAs, was dismissed by the court. The petitioner had alleged that the accused engaged in horse-trading activities to facilitate the formation of a government with requisite numbers in the Assembly. The court's decision to reject the plea marks the end of the legal challenge seeking central agency intervention in the matter. The dismissal comes at a time when post-election political manoeuvres and defections remain a recurring concern in state politics across India, with various parties accusing rivals of attempting to poach legislators.
