MANILA – The Supreme Court has dismissed Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez's petition challenging the preliminary investigation conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman, finding the case to be moot and academic.
Romualdez had petitioned the high court to invalidate the Ombudsman's preliminary investigation into his alleged involvement in the flood control projects controversy. The Supreme Court's decision to dismiss the petition for being moot signals that the legal question raised is no longer viable for adjudication.
The dismissal comes as the case has progressed beyond the preliminary investigation stage, making the congressman's challenge to that specific phase of the proceedings no longer applicable. The Ombudsman's office continues its review of allegations connected to the flood control projects matter.
Romualdez has maintained his position regarding the controversy surrounding the flood control initiatives. The Supreme Court's action does not constitute a ruling on the merits of the underlying allegations against the congressman.
