The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking to relocate the trial proceedings in the controversial Tirupati laddu case, ruling that judicial proceedings cannot be relocated merely due to political commentary or public statements.
The court observed that it was not inclined to transfer the trial outside Andhra Pradesh, noting that courts function independently of political discourse. The judges emphasized that such statements do not compromise the integrity of judicial proceedings or the impartiality of trial courts.
The case pertains to allegations of adulteration in the ghee used to prepare laddus, a sacred offering at the renowned Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh. The matter had drawn considerable public and political attention, prompting calls from some quarters for the trial to be moved to a neutral venue.
The Supreme Court's ruling underscores the judiciary's position that courts must continue their proceedings in their designated jurisdictions and maintain their independence regardless of external political pressures or statements made in the public domain.
