Supreme Court set to welcome third woman judge

The Supreme Court of India currently has two women judges on its bench. Justice B V Nagarathna, who joined the top court on August 31, 2021, and Justice Venkita Subramani Mohana represent the present female judicial strength at the apex level.

The anticipated appointment of a third woman judge would represent an incremental but meaningful increase in female representation within the Supreme Court's collegium. This expansion reflects ongoing efforts to enhance gender diversity in India's judicial hierarchy.

The presence of more women judges at the Supreme Court level has long been advocated by legal experts and gender equality advocates.
