Supreme Court to hear contempt plea over Delhi metro shutdown during protests
The Supreme Court will examine allegations that authorities violated court orders by imposing a complete ban on metro and train services in Delhi during recent protests. A bench led by Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana is scheduled to hear the matter on Sunday.

The apex court will consider a contempt petition filed by advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi challenging the transportation shutdown implemented during the Chief Justice of Pakistan protest in the national capital. According to the court's cause list for October 11, the plea names Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation chairperson D Thara as respondents.
The petition, filed through advocate Chand Qureshi, argues that the complete prohibition on metro and train services constitutes a flagrant disregard for the Supreme Court's earlier directive permitting only partial restrictions on public transport. The plea characterizes the action as a deliberate violation of citizens' fundamental rights, alleging that the decision was taken in direct contravention of the court's orders.
The petitioner has sought the initiation of contempt proceedings against the authorities, asserting that the blanket transportation ban exceeded any reasonable interpretation of the court's previous instructions. The plea contends that such actions by the Delhi Metro, Delhi Police, and the Union government warrant stringent judicial intervention to ensure compliance with court directives.
