Surigao Norte congressman, son face graft charges over P80M project

MANILA — First District Rep. Francisco "Lalo" Matugas of Surigao del Norte and his son, Francisco "Bingo" Matugas II, are facing malversation and graft charges before the Office of the Ombudsman in relation to an P80-million project.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano confirmed Friday that the complaint against the father-and-son pair has been filed, along with allegations against officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways. The charges center on irregularities in the handling and implementation of the infrastructure undertaking.
The complaint marks the latest in a series of graft cases brought before the Ombudsman involving government officials and public works projects. Details regarding the specific nature of the alleged malversation and the timeline of the project were not immediately disclosed.
