COTABATO CITY — A comprehensive land mapping study of six acknowledged Moro Islamic Liberation Front camps has been completed by government authorities, signaling advancement in efforts to address property ownership issues tied to the Bangsamoro peace process.

The pilot survey, conducted in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, represents a key milestone on the normalization track of the peace agreement between the Philippine government and the MILF. Land disputes have remained a significant hurdle in the broader reconciliation efforts following decades of conflict in the region.

The Joint Task Force on Camps is expected to utilize the findings to facilitate the resolution of contested land claims within the surveyed camp areas. Officials view the study as an essential foundation for establishing clarity on property ownership and usage rights that have long remained ambiguous.

The completion of the pilot project paves the way for potential expansion to additional camps and represents a concrete step toward normalizing MILF-controlled territories under the peace framework. The initiative aims to balance competing claims while supporting the long-term stability objectives outlined in the Bangsamoro accord.
