Suryavankshi's T20 debut at number-3 ends in early dismissal against New Zealand

India's latest batting prospect Vaibhav Suryavankshi endured a forgettable start to his T20 International career in Christchurch on Wednesday, falling for just 4 runs in the second Twenty20 encounter against New Zealand.

Included in the playing XI as an injury replacement for wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, Suryavankshi was handed the responsibility of batting at number-3. However, the debutant struggled to get off the mark against the New Zealand bowling attack.

Pacer Nathan Smith proved too difficult for Suryavankshi to negotiate, dismissing him in the very first over of what was the youngster's maiden T20I innings at the number-3 position. Unable to build any momentum, Suryavankshi managed only 4 runs from 8 deliveries before returning to the pavilion.

The early dismissal highlighted the challenges faced by emerging batting talents when facing international pace bowling in the shortest format. Suryavankshi will be eager to bounce back in subsequent opportunities to prove his credentials at the international level.
