PUTRAJAYA — Malaysia's waste management authority is preparing enhanced surveillance operations ahead of the nation's Independence Day celebrations, urging citizens to dispose of litter responsibly during the festive period.
The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) flagged concerns about littering at public gathering spaces where Merdeka Day events are typically held. The move follows recurring issues in previous years when celebration venues were left with significant amounts of discarded waste.
Official representatives emphasized that while patriotic celebrations are important occasions for Malaysians, maintaining public cleanliness should remain a priority. SWCorp has indicated it will deploy additional staff and resources to monitor high-traffic areas during the festivities to manage waste collection and encourage proper disposal practices among attendees.
