A consumer complaint has resulted in a significant order against Swiggy and its restaurant partner for displaying inaccurate pricing on the platform's Dineout feature. The Swiggy listing had indicated a "cost for two" of Rs 1,500, creating a disparity with the actual buffet charges levied at the restaurant.
According to the case details, the restaurant charged Rs 1,050 per person for vegetarian buffet service and Rs 1,100 per person for non-vegetarian buffet offerings. This pricing structure resulted in actual costs significantly lower than what was advertised on the Swiggy platform, misleading customers about the expense they would incur.
The regulatory authority found merit in the customer's complaint regarding the discrepancy between listed and actual prices. The order mandates both Swiggy and the restaurant to jointly pay Rs 1 lakh in compensation to the aggrieved customer for the misleading information and resultant consumer deception.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about price accuracy on food delivery and restaurant aggregator platforms in India. The decision underscores the responsibility of both digital platforms and their merchant partners to ensure transparent and accurate pricing information to protect consumer interests and maintain market fairness.
