The Swiss Football Association (SFV) announced on Tuesday that midfielder Granit Xhaka and forward Breel Embolo have been cleared to resume international duty following a formal inquiry into their acquisition of falsified COVID-19 vaccination documents.
Both players will be available for selection in Switzerland's next round of fixtures scheduled for November, the association confirmed. The investigation, which examined the circumstances surrounding the forged certificates, has now concluded.
The development allows the pair to return to national team competition after their eligibility was previously in question. Xhaka, who plays for Arsenal in the English Premier League, and Embolo, currently with AS Monaco, had been sidelined from international fixtures pending the SFV's review.
The SFV did not provide further details regarding the specifics of its investigation or any disciplinary measures that may have been imposed on the players as part of the resolution process.
