Syria detains officer in death of White Helmets paramedic in custody

Syrian security forces have taken a policeman into detention in connection with the death of Mohammad Ghamira, a paramedic with the White Helmets civil defence group, who sustained fatal injuries while in official custody.

Ghamira, who worked as a rescue worker for the internationally recognized humanitarian organization, died following physical altercation while detained by authorities. Medical records indicated the victim suffered from haemophilia, a serious blood clotting disorder that makes even minor injuries potentially life-threatening.
