Taal Volcano in Batangas province experienced a sharp escalation in volcanic earthquakes, with 46 seismic events monitored over a 24-hour period ending Friday, Aug. 21, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The uptick represents a marked increase from the 14 earthquakes recorded in the prior day.

The volcano also generated two volcanic tremor episodes during the monitoring period, with durations ranging from two to 245 minutes. Tremor activity of this nature typically indicates movement of magma or gases within the volcanic system.

Phivolcs continues to monitor Taal Volcano's activity closely. The volcano remains one of the Philippines' most active and dangerous, situated in the densely populated Calabarzon region south of Manila. Residents in surrounding communities are advised to stay alert to official updates from the volcanological agency.

The agency has not indicated any changes to the volcano's alert status based on the latest seismic data. Authorities routinely assess volcanic activity to inform public safety measures for nearby settlements and communities.
