Taal Volcano Erupts Fifth Time This Month, Alert Level Unchanged

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed the latest phreatic eruption in its morning bulletin on Wednesday, October 21. Phreatic eruptions are driven by steam pressure rather than magma movement and typically pose limited hazard to populated areas beyond the volcano's immediate vicinity.

The October eruptions mark renewed activity at one of the country's most closely monitored volcanoes. Phivolcs has maintained alert level 1, the lowest alert status, indicating that volcanic earthquakes are occurring and minor steam and gas emissions continue but pose no immediate threat to communities.

Residents in nearby areas and the broader Calabarzon region remain under standard monitoring protocols. Phivolcs continues to track seismic activity and gas emissions from the volcano, which last experienced a major eruption in January 2020 that displaced tens of thousands of residents and prompted widespread ash fall across the region.

Authorities advise residents to remain vigilant and heed any updates from Phivolcs regarding changes in alert levels or volcanic activity.
