Taal Volcano generates minor eruption plume in Batangas

Taal Volcano in Batangas province logged a minor phreatomagmatic eruption Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The volcanic activity occurred between 10:07 a.m. and 10:09 a.m., generating a plume that rose approximately 250 meters above the main crater lake.

Phivolcs issued an official bulletin shortly after 11 a.m. documenting the brief eruption. Phreatomagmatic eruptions occur when hot magma comes into contact with water, producing a mixture of steam, ash, and volcanic gases.

The eruption marks continued activity at the volcano, which remains under close monitoring by government volcanologists. Residents and communities in surrounding areas are advised to remain alert to any changes in volcanic conditions and heed advisories from local government authorities.

Taal Volcano, one of the Philippines' most active volcanic systems, sits on Volcano Island in Taal Lake. Its proximity to populated areas in Batangas and neighboring provinces makes ongoing surveillance a priority for disaster management officials.
