The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) documented 30 volcanic earthquakes shaking Taal Volcano within a 24-hour period, according to a bulletin released Wednesday morning. The uptick in seismic activity underscores the ongoing volcanic unrest affecting the volcano, which straddles Batangas and Cavite provinces.
Seismic monitoring data shows an escalating trend in earthquake frequency. Phivolcs recorded 28 earthquakes on November 3, followed by 22 on November 2, and three on November 1, indicating a notable increase in volcanic tremors over recent days.
Taal Volcano remains one of the Philippines' most closely monitored volcanic systems due to its proximity to populated areas and the capital region. Phivolcs continues to track ground deformation, gas emissions, and other volcanic parameters to assess any potential hazard escalation.
Authorities have not announced changes to the volcano's alert status, though residents in nearby communities are urged to remain vigilant and heed all advisories from volcanology and disaster management officials.
