Taal Volcano Spews Steam Plume 2.7 Kilometers High

The main crater of Taal Volcano released a voluminous plume of steam and volcanic gases on Tuesday, according to monitoring data from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The emission column ascended approximately 2,700 meters above the volcano's crater rim over the past day, signaling elevated activity at the volcano located in Batangas province.

Phivolcs recorded a substantial release of sulfur dioxide gas during the monitoring period. The agency detected 160 metric tons of SO₂ emissions, measurements that indicated sustained degassing from the volcano's main crater.

The increased volcanic activity at Taal comes as authorities continue to closely monitor the volcano, one of the Philippines' most active and closely watched volcanic systems. The volcano sits near populated areas in the Calabarzon region and has a history of significant eruptions.

Phivolcs regularly issues volcanic activity bulletins to inform the public and disaster management authorities of changes in Taal's behavior. Residents and local government units in nearby municipalities remain advised to stay alert to any updates from the agency regarding the volcano's status.
