Taal Volcano in Batangas province has registered 162 volcanic earthquakes over a six-day period, signaling a resurgence in seismic unrest at one of the nation's most closely watched volcanic systems.
According to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the volcano recorded 34 volcanic earthquakes on Tuesday alone, along with a single episode of volcanic tremor that persisted for 256 minutes. The frequency of seismic events underscores the ongoing instability beneath the volcano.
Taal Volcano, located roughly 65 kilometers south of Manila, has a history of destructive eruptions and remains one of the most hazardous volcanoes in the region due to its proximity to densely populated areas. Phivolcs continuously monitors the volcano through its network of seismic stations to track changes in volcanic behavior.
