PUTRAJAYA — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that probes into issues affecting Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will proceed on multiple fronts, transcending the scope of the ongoing Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) examining the pilgrimage fund's affairs.
Anwar has instructed law enforcement and regulatory bodies to accelerate their investigations and take decisive action on matters relating to the hajj savings body, emphasising the need for swift, robust and independent pursuit of any wrongdoing.
The directive reflects growing momentum to address long-standing concerns over TH's financial management and governance. The RCI, established to investigate specific aspects of the institution's operations, will continue its work, but enforcement agencies have been empowered to pursue separate lines of inquiry.
The Prime Minister's emphasis on speed and firmness signals the government's commitment to holding accountable those responsible for any irregularities at the institution, which manages savings for Malaysian Muslims performing the hajj pilgrimage.
The multi-pronged approach indicates that potential remedies may extend beyond the RCI's recommendations, with criminal and civil proceedings potentially following independent investigations by police and other authorities.
