Tacloban mayor, NBI director forge enhanced security strategy

TACLOBAN CITY — Local and national law enforcement authorities have partnered to implement stricter safety and security protocols across the region, addressing vulnerabilities in firearm management and cybersecurity infrastructure. Mayor Alfred Romualdez, who heads the Regional Peace and Order Council, met with Atty. Jeremy Lotoc, the freshly assigned National Bureau of Investigation Region 8 Director, to discuss the comprehensive approach Wednesday.

The discussions centered on controlling unauthorized access to firearms and promoting responsible gun ownership among residents and officials. Romualdez expressed concern over the circulation of weapons outside legal channels, a persistent challenge in the region that has fueled criminal activity and public safety threats.

Beyond physical security, the officials identified digital infrastructure as a critical area requiring immediate attention. Government agencies in the region will face heightened cybersecurity standards to prevent data breaches and protect sensitive information from unauthorized access.
