KORONADAL CITY — All public and private educational institutions in Tacurong City have temporarily halted in-person instruction and transitioned to alternative learning methods in response to a fatal shooting incident at a regional school.
Tacurong City Mayor Lina Montilla ordered the suspension of classroom-based classes at all educational levels, effective September 21. The measure was implemented following the shooting at Banga National High School in neighboring South Cotabato province, which resulted in fatalities and heightened safety concerns across the broader region.
The shift to remote and alternative learning formats affects preschool, elementary, secondary, and higher education institutions within Tacurong's jurisdiction. City officials have not announced a specific timeline for the resumption of regular face-to-face classes, with the temporary suspension expected to remain in effect pending further assessment of the security situation.
The incident has prompted broader discussions among local government units in the region regarding school safety protocols and emergency response measures. Educational authorities are coordinating with law enforcement and security agencies to determine appropriate conditions for the eventual return to normal classroom operations.
