Taiwan reports surge in Chinese military aircraft and naval incursions

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence said it has tracked four separate sorties of Chinese military aircraft and multiple People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels operating in the vicinity of the island. The military activity involved incursions into Taiwan's Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ), the ministry confirmed in statements released this week.

The uptick in Chinese military operations underscores mounting pressure on Taiwan's territorial waters and airspace. The sorties involved various classes of aircraft conducting coordinated movements around the island, according to defence officials monitoring the situation.

In response, Taiwan's Coast Guard has intensified its own operations to counter Chinese coast guard activities in the region. Officials emphasised that the service remains committed to safeguarding Taiwan's sovereignty and protecting its surrounding waters from unauthorised incursions.

The incidents add to a pattern of increased military activity by China near Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own territory. Taiwan's defence establishment maintains constant surveillance of the strait and adjacent waters, responding swiftly to any perceived threats to the island's security and territorial integrity.
