Takeda to scale dengue vaccine production to 100 million doses annually by 2029

Takeda Pharmaceutical has outlined an ambitious expansion strategy for its dengue vaccine QDENGA, targeting annual production capacity of 100 million doses by 2029 through collaboration with Bangalore-based Bio E. The partnership marks a significant step in scaling vaccine availability across South Asia, where dengue fever remains a major public health concern.

The company's India rollout will follow a phased approach, with initial QDENGA supplies being imported from Takeda's manufacturing facility in Germany to establish market presence. This interim arrangement will support early adoption while domestic production capabilities are developed through Bio E.

A private sector launch across Indian pharmacies and vaccination centres is scheduled for the first half of 2027, making the vaccine accessible to private patients seeking protection against all four dengue virus serotypes. The expanded capacity outlined for 2029 would position India as a key manufacturing hub for dengue vaccines, potentially supporting regional demand across Southeast Asia.

The initiative comes as dengue cases surge across the subcontinent, with India experiencing significant outbreaks in recent years. Takeda's QDENGA received regulatory approval in India, clearing the path for commercial introduction and addressing a critical gap in dengue prevention options available to the Indian population.
