Tamil Nadu Assembly erupts over CM's ED allegations; DMK MLAs evicted

The Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed heated scenes as proceedings commenced on Tuesday, with DMK Whip EV Velu demanding that Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's statement from the previous day be struck from official records. Velu contended that the CM's references to allegations made by the Enforcement Directorate regarding corruption and citations from the Sarkaria Commission violated assembly rules and procedures.
The DMK raised objections to multiple aspects of the CM's address, particularly the invocation of ED documents and references to the Sarkaria Commission's findings regarding alleged offences. Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar defended the Chief Minister's statement, asserting that it was grounded in the official Sarkaria Commission report and documented ED materials, and reiterated graft allegations against the previous DMK administration.
When Speaker JCD Prabhakar ruled against the expunction of the CM's remarks, DMK members staged a sustained protest with noisy slogans within the House. As the disruption continued, several DMK MLAs gathered near the Speaker's podium in a show of dissent.
The escalating tensions culminated in the Speaker ordering the eviction of opposition members from the chamber. The incident underscores deepening acrimony between the ruling AIADMK administration and the DMK opposition over governance and accountability issues.
