Tamil Nadu CM directs round-the-clock monsoon vigil amid waterlogging concerns

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered district administrators and municipal officials to maintain heightened alertness as the state enters the northeast monsoon season, which typically brings substantial rainfall to Chennai and surrounding regions between October and December.

During a review meeting, Stalin assessed the state's monsoon readiness and directed officials to focus on 35 identified waterlogging-prone locations across Chennai. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for round-the-clock monitoring and swift action to mitigate potential flooding and water accumulation in vulnerable areas.

The directive comes as part of the state government's comprehensive approach to monsoon management, which includes pre-positioning drainage equipment, clearing clogged stormwater systems, and ensuring adequate civil infrastructure. Officials have been instructed to coordinate closely with weather departments to track rainfall patterns and issue timely alerts to residents.

Authorities have also been tasked with ensuring that emergency response teams remain mobilized throughout the season. The state government has requested that local civic bodies conduct field inspections of critical infrastructure and submit regular reports on preparedness status.
