Tamil Nadu Congress Chief Backs Vijay as CM, Rahul as PM

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president on Monday reaffirmed the party's support for actor Vijay's political ambitions while backing Rahul Gandhi as the Congress-led opposition's prime ministerial face. Speaking to reporters, TNCC president Manickam Tagore said Vijay should continue as chief minister of Tamil Nadu, signaling Congress's commitment to the alliance with Vijay Krishnamurthy's party.

Tagore also addressed recent friction between the two parties, alleging that certain media organizations were deliberately attempting to sow discord between the Congress and TVK (Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam). "Some media houses are conspiring and trying to spoil the relationship between TVK and Congress," he stated, dismissing reports of tensions within the anti-DMK coalition.

The Congress leader's remarks come as regional political alliances in Tamil Nadu remain fluid ahead of electoral contests. The party's backing of both Vijay's state-level leadership and Gandhi's national political profile underscores Congress's strategy of forging multi-level alliances with regional players to counter the ruling BJP and state-level DMK government.

The TNCC chief's statement represents an effort to quell speculation about potential disagreements between the Congress and TVK, two constituents of the broader opposition coalition in the southern state.
